How the Duetto MT EVO works

The Duetto MT EVO uses two types of lasers, the Alexandrite of 755 nanometers and the ND: Yag of 1064 nanometers. With its 3.7kVa power, this laser is one of the most powerful lasers in the world. This makes this laser suitable for all Fitzpatrick skin types (1 to 6).

The Duetto MT EVO also has a cooling system that is incorporated in the treatment head, which immediately cools the skin during treatment to limit heating in the skin and make the treatment more pleasant. Due to the cooling of the epidermis, the risk of burning is minimized.

In order to be able to treat effectively, it is important for this laser that the hairs are visible up to ⅔ mm on the skin. In this way, the response of the hair to the laser can be properly monitored so that the most optimal treatment can be carried out. In addition, Duetto MT laser has different spot sizes to use. Because it is possible to work with different sport sizes, the treatment will be accurate and effective.

During and after treatment:

The hair growth cycle consists of three phases: The growth phase, the transition phase and the resting phase. Each individual hair can be in a different phase. For example, at a certain point in time, a number of hairs can grow while others do not. They are then in a resting phase. A hair in the growth phase responds best to the treatment. At that moment the hair is attached to the hair root. This allows both the hair and the hair root to be heated. Because the hairs are in different phases, multiple laser hair removal treatments are required for each spot. On average, these are 6 to 8 treatments to achieve the maximum result. Normally there are 4-8 weeks between each treatment.

Unfortunately, blonde, gray and reddish hair cannot be treated by a laser, because those hairs have no pigment. These types of hair can be treated by electrical epilation.

With each treatment, an evaluation will be made of whether a result has been achieved. The treatment is adjusted to this again. Under the influence of hormones, the so-called dormant hairs can start to grow on the body. As a result, you may need maintenance treatments after the average number of treatments. Hair on the face / face is more sensitive to hormones than other parts of the body. As a result, maintenance treatments are more common with laser hair removal on the face / face than in other places.

General information laser hair removal Amsterdam

When are u eligible for laser hair removal?

The laser light works on pigment that is present in hairs that are located in the skin. The darker these hairs, the more pigment there is. Dark pigmented hair is ideal for laser hair removal. Lightly pigmented hair is not always suitable for laser hair removal, this is assessed by the skin therapist during the intake. White, red and blonde hair cannot be treated with the laser, they can be treated with electrical epilation .

How does laser hair removal work?

With each flash, the laser gives off heat to hair follicles in the skin. This happens in a fraction of a second. This creates heat in the pigment that is in the hair follicles of hair. This heat destroys the hair follicle and prevents new hair from growing. The surrounding tissue and skin structures remain intact. With this method, the hair can be permanently removed from all parts of the body, both in men and women.

Not all hair will be completely removed after one treatment. This is because all hairs on the body move into different hair phases. Only hair that is in the growth phase can the laser light destroy the pigment in the hair follicle. Brief explanation of the different hair phases:

  1. Growth phase (anagen phase)
In this phase the hair grows and pigment (melanin) is present around the hair root.
  2. Transition phase (catagen phase)
At this stage, the hair stops growing and detaches from the blood supply. This phase lasts approximately two weeks.
  3. Rest phase (telogen phase)
At this stage, the hair rests and a new hair will grow underneath. The resting phase lasts approximately three months. 10 to 15% of all hair is randomly in this phase.
  4. Hair loss (exogenous phase)
In this phase, the hair will fall out and a new hair will start in the active phase, after which the cycle will start again.

Contraindications

  • Medication that has light hypersensitivity (phototoxicity) as a side effect. An example of this is antibiotics
  • Active cold sore (when it is in the treatment area)
  • Keloid or hypertrophic scars (abnormal increase in scar tissue in the skin)
  • Pregnancy
  • Epilepsy
Sun / tanning bed tanned skin
  • Inflammations present in the treatment area
  • Non-intact skin (when the skin is open due to a wound in the treatment area)

How many treatments are needed?

Since not all hairs are in the same phase at the same time, multiple treatments are required. The number of treatments differs per person and depends, among other things, on the treatment area. On average, six to twelve treatments are required for the desired result.

After each treatment you will notice that the hairs that come back are thinner and lighter in color. In addition, the number of treatments depends on several factors such as:

  • Hair density (the number of hairs that are together on cm2)
  • The color of the hair
  • The diameter of the hair (how thick the hair is)
  • The location of the hair on the body
  • The hairs are in the right phase (the growth phase).

The frequency of the treatment again depends on the treatment area. Usually this is between four to eight weeks. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee 100% hair removal. The hairs that have disappeared due to the treatments are definitely gone.

Important to know when to start laser depilation

Before you start treatment, it is important to carefully observe the following points:

  • You should absolutely not be tanned by the sun or tanning bed. It is recommended not to expose the skin to UV radiation for 6 weeks before / after each treatment. Before the treatment, it is very important to rub your skin daily and repeatedly with a sunscreen of at least factor 30 for 6 weeks. If you are (again) outside for more than 2 hours after applying the skin, reapply SPF 30. This way, the skin remains protected against UV radiation at all times.
  • For an effective treatment it is necessary that the hairs before the treatment are in the skin. This means that you should not epilate or wax the hair. However, the hair may be shaved or cut. We do not recommend the use of depilatory cream because it can damage the skin.
  • It is important that the hairs are visible during the intake interview, so that the skin therapist can properly map out the hair and, in the event of a test flash, can properly check the reaction of the hair.
  • Always inform the treating skin therapist about a change in your medication use or a pregnancy before each treatment.
  • Make sure that you do not apply day creams or camouflage creams or deodorants to the treatment area on the day of treatment. These agents can block laser beams, making the treatment less effective.

After the laser treatment

After the laser treatment, the skin may be red and still feel a bit warm or irritated. In addition, moisture bumps may be visible. This is a normal reaction of the skin after a laser treatment and it will disappear by itself. For relief, you can cool the skin with a cold washcloth or a cold pack (not from the freezer).

We recommend that you wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing after the treatment and do not go to the sauna or a steam bath for the first two days. The hairs may fall out after about two weeks. Do not try to pull on the hair.

It is important to avoid the sun for at least four weeks after the treatment to avoid pigmentation of the skin. If you do go outside, you must protect the skin well against the sun with the help of a sunscreen with a factor of at least 30.

Unwanted hair growth and excessive hair

What is unwanted hair and excess hair?

Unwanted hair growth refers to all hairs on the body that are perceived as disturbing. In addition, there may also be excessive hair on the body. Excess hair means that there is more hair growth than usual.

There are two types of excessive hair growth:

  • Hypertrichosis
This is an increase in hair growth in areas of the body where hair growth is already present, but the hairs are longer and darker. This phenomenon can occur in both men and women from puberty.
  • Hirsutism
This is hair growth according to the male hair pattern in women.

The number of hair follicles a body has is fixed from birth. How many hair follicles this are depends on the origin. During life, different phases take place, causing hormone fluctuations. Examples are: puberty, pregnancy and menopause. During hormone fluctuations, hair follicles are activated and hairs start to grow from these hair follicles.

When you have undergone laser hair removal, the hair follicles that are active at that time have been treated. However, you may see new hair in the treated area later after a hormone fluctuation has occurred. These are not the hairs that were active during the treatment process, but hairs that arose because the inactive hair follicles in the treated area have become active and new hairs grow.

All locations of Huidtherapeut NL work according to the same method.

FAQs

Why do people regret laser hair removal? ›

Regret usually stems from choosing the wrong provider. While laser hair removal itself is rarely regrettable, what can lead to regret is choosing the wrong provider. A cheap, inexperienced clinic may use outdated equipment or incorrect techniques, leading to less effective treatment or even unwanted side-effects.

Can I shave 2 hours before laser hair removal? ›

Shave Before Treatment

You should shave within 24 hours of your scheduled laser appointment. Your laser technician cannot treat areas that have hair above the skin. You cannot even receive treatment if there is rough stubble because this may create too much heat for the pigment of your skin.

Is one session of laser hair removal worth it? ›

Now, you might wonder if one session is enough for permanent hair removal. The answer is usually no. While you will notice a reduction in hair growth, achieving complete hair removal requires multiple sessions.

What happens if I stop laser hair removal after 4 sessions? ›

If treatment is stopped before all of the hair follicles have been destroyed, some may continue to grow. It is important to complete the recommended treatment plan to achieve the best results. Sometimes, the patient sees hairs are thicker and darker after the treatment when they have original light and fair hair.

What is negative to laser hair removal? ›

Risks of side effects vary with skin type, hair color, treatment plan and adherence to pre-treatment and post-treatment care. The most common side effects of laser hair removal include: Skin irritation. Temporary discomfort, redness and swelling are possible after laser hair removal.

What is the danger of laser hair removal? ›

People may want the treatment on their underarms, back or bikini area. It's not permanent, but the results last longer than shaving or waxing. Most people need about six treatments. It's usually safe, but side effects can include burns, scars or permanent skin discoloration.

What happens if you miss a spot shaving before laser hair? ›

Reduced effectiveness.

If you don't shave before your laser hair removal treatment, the laser will target the surface hair, which can lead to a less effective session. This means you might require more sessions than initially planned, delaying your journey towards that attractive, hair-free body.

Is it OK to shave 1 hour before laser? ›

A shave 24 to 48 hours before the appointed date is important. While the hair root is invisible, the laser can seek it out within the pigment. By shaving, you reduce the chances of burns with the hair being below the skin's surface.

Is stubble OK for laser hair removal? ›

Your Laser Technician will not be able to go over areas with hair that's above the skin. They can't even go over areas with hair that has a rough stubble because it damages the laser and increases the chances of getting burned/pigmented, as well as makes the laser treatment hurt more.

Why is my hair growing back 2 days after laser? ›

While some hairs may be in the anagen phase, others may be in the resting or transition phases. The laser is most effective on hairs in the anagen phase, meaning hairs in other stages will not be as affected and will continue to grow. This can give the impression that your hair is growing back quickly post-treatment.

How can I speed up shedding after laser hair removal? ›

Exfoliate gently: Two to three days after your treatment, start gentle exfoliation to help remove dead skin cells and expedite hair shedding. Use a soft washcloth or an exfoliating scrub designed for sensitive skin.

Is electrolysis better than laser hair removal? ›

Electrolysis is considered a more permanent solution than laser hair removal (it stops hair growth completely while laser hair removal slows and reduces hair growth), but it requires more individual sessions (closer to 14), and the sessions can take longer. You might not see full results for nearly 18 months.

How many years is laser hair removal good for? ›

You can expect a 10% to 25% reduction in hair after the first treatment. To remove the hair, most patients need 2 to 6 laser treatments. After finishing the treatments, most patients do not see any hair on the treated skin for several months or even years. When the hair regrows, there tends to be less of it.

What happens if you only do one laser hair removal? ›

One treatment can only target the hairs that are in the active growth phase at that time, leaving the dormant hair follicles to regrow hair. Therefore, having only one treatment will not provide permanent results. You may experience some hair reduction, but it's unlikely to be significant or permanent.

Why is my hair still growing after 4 laser sessions? ›

However, even though laser treatments damage hair follicles, they're not destroyed completely. Over time, the treated follicles may recover from the initial damage and grow hair again. It's a tall order to eliminate every hair follicle in a given area. Therefore, you may notice a tiny amount of hair regrowth.

Do people ever regret laser hair removal? ›

But, as with any treatment that ends with more or less permanent results, not everyone is pleased with their decision. While some feel freedom after banishing all the hair on their bodies for good, others express deep regret — especially given how the conversation around body hair has shifted in recent years.

Is it embarrassing to get laser hair removal? ›

Getting embarrassed about having laser hair removal on your Brazilian area is perfectly normal. It can be a bit intimidating visiting a clinic, undressing and letting a complete stranger get up close and personal with you.

Is laser hair removal a con? ›

Laser hair removal is safe, but it can occasionally cause side effects, such as pain and discomfort, and red skin that may last for some time. It may also not be suitable for everyone, including pregnant women and people with certain skin types. There's no evidence to suggest that laser hair removal causes skin cancer.

Why did laser hair removal make my hair worse? ›

No one actually knows why this happens with laser patients, but after treatment, the laser can do the opposite of what you're expecting and actually stimulate hair growth. And, if that wasn't enough, the hair can actually come back thicker and darker!
