This is the part of the post where most people will tell you that they only watch the Super Bowl for the commercials or how the Puppy Bowl is the real attraction for them on that first Sunday in February. Sorry, not this blogger. I'm the one yelling at the TV during the play offs and startling any nearby children. Second to the action, though, is the food! I love a good appetizer set up and think that thoughtfully done appetizers absolutely can substitute for the main meal. This seven layer dip recipe is hearty and delicious!

How To Make This Seven Layer Dip - Step by Step

  • Layer each ingredient in your cup or dish in the order it is listed in the ingredients.
  • Refrigerate until time to serve.
  • Serve with a lime wedge and tortilla chip garnish.

What's In A Seven Layer Dip?

This dip has seven layers (as per the title!). It's so easy to make, all the ingredients can be store bought or homemade if you wish.

The seven layers are:

  • Refried beans
  • Sour cream
  • Chile con queso (this recipe seems pretty on point or you could buy ahead from a restaurant)
  • Guacamole
  • Black beans (rinsed and drained)
  • Chopped brisket (purchased from a restaurant or make ahead in a slow cooker like this recipe)
  • Pico de gallo

Then for topping:

  • lime wedges for garnish
  • 2 bags of tortilla chips-- the thickest, yummiest, homemade-iest ones you can find! (Siete Dip Chips are my personal favorite!)

How Long Does Seven Layer Dip Last In Fridge?

Seven layer dip lasts 2-3 days in the fridge. The longer it is stored, the more the layers will bleed together and it can get a bit watery (you can drain it off). After the first 24 hours, it may not look pretty, but it will still taste amazing.

The Best Party Dip!

This seven layer dip can be placed in a casserole dish or you can serve them up in cups, which look great! You can make these up to 12 hours in advance of your party. The cups are an awesome way to portion out the dip and gives everyone their own personal dip, less fighting over the dip bowl and you can double dip at your leisure!

Top Tips For This Seven Layer Dip

  • The most important tip is to drain your salsa. Otherwise it will create a soggy mess. This is why I love using Pico de Gallo as opposed to a more watery salsa.
  • Add a dash of cayenne pepper and some pickled jalapenos to the refried beans to make this dish spicy.
  • The fun thing about this 7 layer bean dip is you can add as many additional layers as you’d like. Avocados, corn, whichever ingredients you like in your bean dip. Or you can try making our loaded nachos which is pretty much this bean dip, cooked over cheesy tortilla chips!
  • Serve with lime wedges so your guests can add some fresh lime juice to their portion.

Oh my goodness, those look delicious! I must try this recipe. I'll have to substitute the brisket for something vegetarian for my sister though!

Oh my gosh...I'm SO sad about the Cowboys. I grew up in Dallas always hearing "remember when the Cowboys were SO GREAT?!" because they've never been good during my lifetime (I was born in 1990). And I thought this year might be their year!! Booooo...

Anyway, if they were going I'd be joining you in screaming at the TV! But this year I'll be one of those girls who goes for the food. 😉 This recipe looks insanely delicious!!

Haha! I know! It sure was a fun season to watch, though! Already looking forward to next year 🙂
